Producer/songwriters, The Soulace, are a highly accomplished production duo that encapsulate elements of several different influences and mould them into a unique sound that is contemporary, retrospective and futuristic all at the same time.

The Soulace write, produce and perform. They provide all of the elements necessary to construct great songs, including, lyrics and harmonies. Indeed, it is their approach to these aspects, which really sets them apart from the crowd. This is backed up by a diverse range of productions, from upbeat high energy floor fillers to slow emotional ballads, and everything in between. Their desire to be free from all musical boundaries coupled with an embracing of influences from many different genres, has led to a sound, which has one foot in Soul and another in every other musical style.

The Soulace also play a development role in the careers of the artists they are working with. This includes their development as musicians/songwriters and also input into their image and stage performance. The Soulace work with artists to develop a complete package and to market the package on the many available stages, including, the internet, music videos, performances and radio.

Influences – Dom

Growing up my dad was into artists like The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon and this has had a definite influence on my musical tastes and style. The first music that I got into, personally, was Hip Hop, especially artists like Nas.

When I started producing music I got more into soul and studied artists like Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway. My production style is influenced by people like The Neptunes, Kanye West, J Dilla, Ryan Leslie, Darkchild and one of my favourite groups right now, The Foreign Exchange. As a songwriter I am as much influenced by artists like Seal and Marvin Gaye as by Hip Hop artists like Lupe and Lauryn Hill. I cant forget Prince and D’angelo as well.

As a musician my inspirations come from Jazz and Gospel artists like Keith Jarrett and Doobie Powell. I listen to all types of music, at any one time I could be listening to Keane or John Legend or even Classical and Jazz. (Robert Glasper is hard!) I love music with emotion attched to it, for me, music is meant to move you.

Influences – Aearon

I grew up in a Christian household so I listened to a lot of Gospel music like Fred Hammond, Kim Burrell, Kirk Franklin and Karen Clarke. At this time my older sister was heavily into R&B, so I got into Dru Hill, Mary J Blige, Next, Donnell Jones, Blackstreet and Boyz II Men. As I grew older my Gospel tastes broadened and I got into more contemporary artists like Tonex, J Moss, Tye Tribbett, Kiki Sheard, James Fortune and Doobie Powell.

I became heavily influenced by vocally talented artists as I started to develop more as a singer/songwriter. I particularly rate Beyonce (say no more), Jazmine Sullivan (vocal beast), Brandy, D’angelo, John Legend, Pharrell and Jill Scott to name a few. I studied their harmonies and melodies as well as going back and listening to musical legends such as Prince, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross and Marvin Gaye. I love to listen to the way they attack songs.

As I got more into production and song writing my style has become heavily influenced by The Neptunes, J Dilla, Ryan Leslie, Timbaland, Kanye West and T Pain. (vocal arrangement is crazy!) My current listening is Coldplay, The Script, Keane, Letoya (productions!), The Foreign Exchange, Wale, Jazmine Sullivan and Drake.
